Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Ideallab ("we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit ideallab.org (the "Website"). It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and your rights to control their use.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work, to work more efficiently, and to provide reporting information. Cookies set by the website operator are called "first-party cookies". Cookies set by other parties are called "third-party cookies".
2. What Cookies We Use
2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are required for the Website to function and cannot be switched off. They are usually set in response to actions you take. You can set your browser to block these cookies, but some parts of the site may not work as a result.
| Cookie Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| None | — | We do not use any cookies on this website. | — |
2.2 Analytics Self-hosted
We use Umami, a self-hosted open-source web analytics platform, to understand how visitors interact with our Website. This helps us improve our content and user experience. Umami is privacy-first: it does not use cookies, does not track individual users, and your IP address is masked before any data is stored.
Analytics data is processed entirely on our own servers (analytics.ideallab.org) within the European Economic Area (EEA). No data is transmitted to third parties or outside the EEA.
3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — for website analytics. We process aggregated, anonymised usage data to understand how visitors use our Website and improve our content. This data does not identify individual users and your IP address is masked.
4. How to Control Cookies
Our Website does not use any cookies. The Umami analytics script uses localStorage to maintain a session identifier, but this data is never shared with third parties and your IP address is truncated to the subnet level before transmission.
5. Data Transfers Outside the EEA
All analytics data is processed and stored on our self-hosted Umami servers within the European Economic Area (EEA). No data is transferred outside the EEA.
6. Retention
Analytics data is retained for up to 24 months in our Umami instance, after which it is automatically deleted. Individual session data is retained for a maximum of 5 minutes before being aggregated into anonymised reports.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
